Review – Trebah Garden – Cornwall

In the summer, I visited Trebah Garden with my friend Clyde the Labrador. We decided to have a look round the gardens as it was advertised as ‘dogs welcome’ – and I certainly was!

The visitor centre had a bowl of water for dogs, and as well as several dog bins placed around the garden, there were also complimentary poo bags in case you don’t take enough!

trebahWe took a picnic for our lunch, and there were some benches that we sat on while we ate, but in the Planters cafe there were designated doggie tables where dogs can sit with their owners. The Garden cafe also had a terrace that dogs were allowed on.

The gardens themselves were a brilliant dog adventure playground. I had to stay on the lead the whole time, but this didn’t stop me from some great sniffing around the trees and plants as the humans walked up and down the zigzag paths.

The site slopes down towards a small beach, where there was a small kiosk called Healey’s Boathouse which sold drinks and ice creams.

I liked cooling off in the sea when we reached the beach at the bottom of the hill, but my favourite thing was chasing Clyde through Bamboozle – we got our humans and leads all tangled up in the bamboo!  Clyde’s favourite thing was trying to pull the humans into the pond!

The gardens were a mixture of trees, plants, open grass and water features. It was a hot day when we visited, but there was lots of shade so we didn’t get too hot. We would recommend Trebah gardens to any dog and their owner, although as it is on a slope it may not be suitable for people with limited mobility. We even spotted some adventure play equipment for young humans to go on while the big humans have a rest!

After our day out at Trebah, Clyde and I were exhausted. We had a wonderful time and will definitely go back for another visit the next time we are in Cornwall.
