With the introduction of the Pet Passport many dog owners have started to take their pets on holiday to Europe. However, there is a lot to consider when taking your pet abroad and you need to start planning well in advance to allow enough time for the necessary vaccinations.
We have produced a guide to the Pet Travel Scheme which can be viewed here.
In addition to the Pet Passport, you will need to decide the best method of transport for your dog when crossing the channel. Although dogs are allowed on most ferries, they often have to remain in the vehicle alone which does not suit all animals. At the time of writing there are no methods for foot passengers to transport pets to Europe, as all animals must enter ferries or the Eurotunnel in a vehicle. Our ferry guide summarises the restrictions for each ferry company on the various routes from the UK.
