Dunstanburgh Castle

Dunstanburgh Castle stands on a remote headland in Northumberland.

The castle was the focus of fierce fighting during the Wars of the Roses, and twice was besieged and captured by Yorkist forces. After the war it fell into decay.

Some things to look out for include:

  • The great twin-towered keep
  • Fantasitc views of the dramatic ruins from the coastline
  • The beautiful walk along Northumberland’s coast to reach the castle

Dunstanburgh Castle is reached via a beautiful walk from the nearby village of Craster. The 1.3 mile walk along the rugged Northumberland Coast crosses working farmland – there may be livestock present so please keep dogs on a lead.
